Jessica's Analysis
What a song. For someone in this situation, I would imagine this song is very powerful and possibly triggering, yet an awesome outlet for what they're feeling. Metal beat and guitars, the famous scream, and the blatant use of lyrics makes Disturbed's "Down With the Sickness" a metal favorite for all time. Here's the breakdown: Basically, the character is remembering his childhood experiences with child abuse brought about by his mother. At the end of the song, he gets into a state where he's reliving the memories but instead of just taking it like he did when he was a kid, he fights her back. "Get ready to die!" could mean he kills her, or just wants to. In my opinion, this song is a flashback and does not imply that a little boy killed his mother due to neglect. Not too many little kids I know use that kind of language (which could show what kind of childhood upbringing -I- had). All in all, the famous child abuse tale still rocks the world of all in need of it today.
Please understand that my opinion doesn't have to be yours. If you disagree, strike up a conversation about it! That's the design of the Project. We'll all learn a little somethin'.
